PolyGone Systems, a pioneer in removing microplastics from waterways, has been named the 2025 finalist at the Earthshot Innovation Challenge: Northeast U.S. Edition Award Ceremony. Along with this prestigious recognition, the team has secured a $25,000 grant to accelerate its mission of ridding our waterways of microplastics.

Hosted by the JFK Library Foundation in collaboration with The Earthshot Prize, the award shines a light on the most exciting ideas for protecting the planet. At the event, PolyGone showcased its latest innovations: plant-inspired filter media and poly cartridges engineered to capture tiny plastic particles from diverse water sources before they reach our oceans.

As former U.S. President John F. Kennedy famously stated, “We choose to go to the moon…, not because it is easy, but because it is hard.” The team’s ambition echoes the spirit of President John F. Kennedy’s legacy. Tackling aquatic microplastic pollution is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today, and it is the “hard thing” that PolyGone is committed to solving.

In the interview with the JFK Library Foundation, Yidian Liu, Co-Founder & COO, shared: “We want to use design systems to advance our cities and ensure a better environment for everyone.” Nathaniel Banks, Co-Founder & CEO, added: “If we all work together, we can truly address this problem. I believe that is possible.”

Beyond the award, the event provided a unique platform to connect with environmental leaders, policymakers, and fellow innovators. The support from the Earthshot community marks a major step forward. PolyGone is more inspired than ever to scale its impact and help create a healthier planet for all.
